Post-COVID Cycle Strategy
Envisioning a new cycle city
Guwahati is the largest metropolis in northeastern India and like other cities, COVID-19 crippled its transport system and roads became overburdened. Meck co-created a cycling plan as a public health measure to show how pop-up cycleways can make it safer to get around during the pandemic. The Plan also outlined ideas for lasting change.
Quick, Easy Wins to get Guwahati Moving Again
The Cycles4Change by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs’ was a key driver for the project. Our plan identified quick wins to institute pop-up cycle lanes and ensured they were part of the planned bike network in the City’s mobility strategy.
A Sustainable Mobility Plan for the Future
The Plan identified long-term change needed to make Guwahati a ‘cycle city.’ This included design recommendations for cycle tracks and pedestrian space, as well as institutional changes to improve capacity within the Municipality. This included the creation of a Cycle Cell.
